The Hollywood Reporter’s profile of Adam McKay, the filmmaker behind the apocalyptic Netflix release Don’t Look Up, begins by describing him as restless. His latest effort boasts a large cast of movie stars, musicians, and comedians, which is unusually precedented for a streaming service that is budgeted around $75 million. It’s about, more generally, the end of the world and nobody willing to do anything about it. This is because political elites are compromised by the megalomania of private enterprise or that they don’t care. This means, it will leave some or most to panic. But if one has to be specific about it, the film is either a broader allegory for climate change or the current COVID-19 pandemic.
